The most notable difference presented in the 2019 Kia Optima and the 2019 Hyundai Sonata lays within the interior cabins in each vehicle. Kia made sure not to fall short when it comes to showcasing a more spacious design in this year's model while still zoning in on tech enhancements featuring their upgraded UVO infotainment system. Pair these upgrades with an outstanding safety rating, and you have one of the most innovative yet practical midsize sedans on the 2019 market.

Cabin Upgrades

The 2019 Kia Optima is being held at a high standard by experts due to it having one of the nicest cabins in its class this year. Built with stain-resistant cloth upholstery, this power adjustable seating system has the capacity to seat five adult passengers comfortably. Although the 2019 Hyundai Sonata seats five as well, the raked roof towards the rear of the cabin ends up limiting the headroom available for passengers in the back seats. The Sonata also fell short in terms of their LATCH system, with the carseat anchors being hard to access. The Optima's distinct labeling allows drivers to find the appropriate anchors, even when there is limited visibility.

Safety Ratings

Both of these vehicles have received a 5 star rating by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), but the 2019 Optima still comes out on top. In terms of side and frontal crash safety ratings, both models received mostly 5 star ratings, but the scores for rollover risks varied. The 2019 Kia Optima received a 5 star rating and a rollover risk of only 9.80%. Unfortunately, the 2019 Sonata only received a 4 star rating in this area, with a rollover risk of 10.50%.

Infotainment Systems

The 2019 Optima may come with two less speakers than the Sonata, but manufacturers made up for this with the updated UVO system. Kia's UVO technology now equips drivers with a personal assistant that helps them save parking locations, points of interest, and more. The new UVO infotainment system also comes with emergency services built in, such as roadside assistance and a 911 Connect feature that helps drivers automatically contact emergency services when necessary. The standard infotainment system in the Optima comes with a six-speaker output as opposed to the Sonata's eight-speaker setup, but Kia is now offering a Harman Kardon audio system upgrade that can enhance the car's infotainment setup to a ten-speaker system.
